RECAP: HOUSE GOP PROTECTS THE RIGHT TO WORSHIP IN TEXAS

director5273

In the last year, Texans have seen how quickly the right to worship was shut down by elected officials overstepping their constitutional authority. That’s why Texas House Republicans have fought to ensure the right to worship is never prohibited in the Lone Star State. Here's a look at the bills:

#HB1239 by state Rep. Scott Sanford prohibits any elected official from having the authority to close a house of worship. Read more on the bill here: https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/history.aspx?LegSess=87R&Bill=HB1239

#HJR72/#SB27 by state Rep. Jeff Leach gives Texas voters the opportunity to strengthen religious freedom by changing the state Constitution to include a ban on local officials closing houses of worship. #HB525 by state Rep. Matt Shaheen establishes religious organizations as “essential” in state law, adding further protections for the right to worship in an emergency or disaster declaration. Read more on the bill here: https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/history.aspx?LegSess=87R&Bill=HB525
